Winery Review: The 2016 Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is dark and dense to the rim of the glass. Layered aromas of black currant, blueberry, and cherry are accentuated by an authentic barrel bouquet of hazelnut, cocoa powder, and dark roasted coffee. High toned red berry fruit strikes the fore-palate, and follows with a bright acidity and a full structure that is both dense and soft at once.
My Review: This Cabernet Sauvignon is without a doubt a big red. It is dense, dry, and full of powerful flavors that light up the palate. This Cabernet particularly is one of the darker and drier Cabs that I have tried before, and with dark fruit flavors such as black cherry and plums I was able to quickly tell the difference between this Cab and some other ones that have a greater presence of bright red fruits such as pomegranate and raspberry. Although there is a strong presence of spices and woody flavors like hazelnuts and coffee, it does not overpower the fruit, which gives the acidity a good level despite the high tannic levels.
