Tasting: Mondavi Merlot 2016
Mondavi & Family Merlot- 2016
Variety: Merlot
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: 2016
Price: $11.99
Winery Review: An incredible buy, Merlot’s glorious richness and mouthwatering fruits are on display in our 2016 vintage, offering deeply intense blackberry and black plum flavors layered with sweet oak spices, and a fresh, earthy complexity (oregano, eucalyptus) on a palate with firm, velvety tannins balanced by the refreshing acidity. 76% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon
My Review: I feel like the winery review for this Merlot was very on point as far as the flavors go. Being a Merlot, this red was very rich in flavor; full of dark fruits such as black cherry, blackberry, and maybe a little red plum. I also got some hints of spices, such as clove and maybe a little eucalyptus, but I personally did not taste oregano. I feel like this particular Merlot was very tannic and velvety, very smooth and well rounded. However, I do think that the tannins were far more present than the acidity.
