Tasting: Cuvée des 3 Messes Basses

Image
Variety: Rosé Region: Rhône Country: France Year: 2017 Price:  $12.99 Winery Review:  Clean fruity and floral bouquet with hint of acid drop when aerated. A fresh and fleshy dry rosé with a crisp mouth, supple and light, with expressive perfumes of red fruits and berries. My Review: The winery notes I think were right on the nose of the flavors of the wine. It was extremely crisp, sweet but not too sweet, and a little bit dry. It was full of aromas such as strawberry and raspberry, but also with strong floral notes such as rose and hibiscus. The acidity balanced well with the tannins, the body was light and very refreshing.

Tasting: Louis Jadot Beaujolais 2016

Image
Variety: Beaujolais Region: Burgundy Country: France Year: 2016 Price: $11.99 Winery Review:  Strong red purple color. Fresh red fruits on the nose with a hint of dark cherry. Slightly spicy with a touch of grey pepper, liquorice and a touch of rose flower. This wine is very well balanced with a nice acidity and supple tannins on the finish. My Review:  This was my first Beaujolais that I have ever had, and I was happily surprised. It seemed like it was a little bit similar to a Pinot Noir. It was light and fruity with a little bit of a spicy finish, and a little bit dry, but not too much. However, it differed from Pinot Noir in that it was equally as spicy as it was fruity and had a little bit of a floral flavor.

Tasting: Ménage à Trois Pinot Noir 2016

Ménage à Trois Pinot Noir: 2016 Variety: Pinot Noir Region: California Year: 2016 Price: $12.99 Winery Review:  We’ll make you feel like a real star. First, we’ll seduce you with our pretty violet aromas, leading to a symphony of juicy Bing cherry flavors and hints of toast on the palate. Then we’ll wrap you in our soft loving embrace, which feels so real you’ll smile, and know that our love is a deep passionate one for life. My Review: This Pinot Noir represents the name Pinot Noir very well. A classic combination of bright red fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate fill your mouth with a soft, fruity feel. However, these fruity flavors are accentuated with a great balance of vanilla and mocha to form a well rounded flavor. Although decently sweet, this Pinot has just the right amount of tannin to it, enough to make it feel a little velvety when it hits your tongue.

Tasting: J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Image
Tasting: J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Variety:  Cabernet Sauvignon Region: California Year: 2016 Price: $17 Winery Review: The 2016 Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is dark and dense to the rim of the glass. Layered aromas of black currant, blueberry, and cherry are accentuated by an authentic barrel bouquet of hazelnut, cocoa powder, and dark roasted coffee. High toned red berry fruit strikes the fore-palate, and follows with a bright acidity and a full structure that is both dense and soft at once. My Review: This Cabernet Sauvignon is without a doubt a big red. It is dense, dry, and full of powerful flavors that light up the palate. This Cabernet particularly is one of the darker and drier Cabs that I have tried before, and with dark fruit flavors such as black cherry and plums I was able to quickly tell the difference between this Cab and some other ones that have a greater presence of bright red fruits such as pomegranate and raspberry....

Tasting: Mondavi Merlot 2016

Image
Mondavi & Family Merlot- 2016 Variety: Merlot Region: California Country: USA Year: 2016 Price: $11.99 Winery Review:  An incredible buy, Merlot’s glorious richness and mouthwatering fruits are on display in our 2016 vintage, offering deeply intense blackberry and black plum flavors layered with sweet oak spices, and a fresh, earthy complexity (oregano, eucalyptus) on a palate with firm, velvety tannins balanced by the refreshing acidity. 76% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon My Review: I feel like the winery review for this Merlot was very on point as far as the flavors go. Being a Merlot, this red was very rich in flavor; full of dark fruits such as black cherry, blackberry, and maybe a little red plum. I also got some hints of spices, such as clove and maybe a little eucalyptus, but I personally did not taste oregano. I feel like this particular Merlot was very tannic and velvety, very smooth and well rounded. However, I do think that t...

Tasting: Clos du Bois Merlot: 2016

Image
Wine Tasting: Clos du Bois Variety: Merlot Region: California Country: USA Year: 2016 Price: $12.99 Winery Review:  Aromas of black cherry, brown spice, and light toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine has a rich texture with concentrated blackberry fruit and notes of mocha. My Review: I really liked this Merlot, it has a strong presence of a combination of bright and dark fruits like pomegranate and blackberries as the winery suggests. There are some slight spicy tastes such as toasted nuts, however these flavors are not predominant. I loved the full body that the wine has, with plenty of tannins, but extremely silky, velvety, and smooth. It left a really good mouth feel.

Wine and Cheese Pairing #2

Image
Wine & Cheese Pairing: #2 !! The other night, my friends and I decided to do our second wine and cheese pairing. We loved the first one so much and had such a great time, so putting everything together for this one was really fun. We wanted to get a variety of different wines and cheeses like we did for the first one, but obviously wanted different flavors and pairings, so we did a little bit of research before we made our final decisions. My roommate Gaby brought home wine from Texas again, which was awesome because we were able to get pretty decent wines for a really decent price. The wines that we decided on were: 1) Scaia Garganega/Chardonnay blend 2014  2) Poppy Pinot Noir 2016 3) Josh Red Blend 2015  I thought that these wines were good choices because all three of the wines we chose to use (Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc) were all varietal wines, while two of these are blends (one white and one red). The cheeses we en...
